Mission

The Kingdom of God and... #4 - The Message

But what should we say? How should we say it? As everyday evangelists, we often get caught up in what we should say. We want it to matter. We want it to work. We want it to save them. In this final sermon, we hear Jesus’ counsel to the man out of whom he had just cast a legion of demons: “Go home! And tell how much God has done for you!” He tells us where to go. He tells us what to say. This is our simple strategy and our straightforward message. God will do the rest.

The Kingdom of God and... #3 - Food

Jesus was accused of many things while he walked this earth. Among the many things that brought him the “stink eye” of those around him was those with whom he ate. They said all kinds of things about Jesus because of the people he ate with. But that was part of Jesus’ loving strategy. This was an act of love. He joined these sorts of people while he ate with them. This was an act of mission. He used this dinner time and the opportunities it provided to talk about the kingdom and God’s work in the world.

The Kingdom of God and... - #2 - Our Time

There are 24 hours in a day. We can’t make more of them. It is zero sum.

There are seven days in a week. We can’t extend the week. People have tried to create a ten day week to try to make more time. It didn’t work. We can’t make more or less time, we can only use the time that we have in as wise a way as possible.

Each moment, each hour, each week, even each month and year is a gift from our Sovereign Lord who has wisely and mightily ordered all things. He has given us this time so that we might know him and so that we might share him. Yes, the Triune God holds all people and times in his hand. He is the Lord of time and eternity. He is the Lord of our lives and our time. He has given each us a certain amount of time during which we might serve him. We want to use that time wisely and well. And so, we’ll make the most of every opportunity, seizing every appointment that the Lord sets for us. This Sunday, as we continue to meditate on the mission of God of which we are a part we will see how the Lord uses our time for the sake of the people whom God places in our path. A sermon on Ephesians 5:15-17.

The Kingdom of God and... - #1 - Forward Momentum

The kingdom of God keeps pressing forward. It is not static or still. The Day of Pentecost is evidence of this. People from all over, from all walks of life, from multiple languages, cultures and ethnicities heard and went home with the gospel and so the kingdom went forward into all the world. This is still the case today. We have our own little “Pentecost” today and then we go out into our world with the Spirit empowering us to testify about our God and Lord. John 15:26-27

DNA

DNA is the code of life that defines who you are and what you do. Mount Lebanon has a DNA too! We are a community for the community with Jesus as our heartbeat. We share one faith and one ministry. We are one family with many parts. This is our DNA. This is who we are in Christ. And now, everything that we do as a church flows out of our DNA. In this sermon series, we want to explore five things that we will do together: Gathering, Growing, Connecting, Giving and Going. This is who we are. This is what we do.

Going

We are a community for the community with Jesus as our heartbeat. And we are going to keep on going with the gospel until the whole world hears. (We’ll be looking at Mark 1:29-39.)

Giving

We are a community for the community with Jesus as our heartbeat. We give with our whole lives to the church, to our community and to each other as God has gifted each one of us. This weekend we’ll consider parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). It’s time for us to do good for those around us.

GROWING - 9/26/21

We are a community for the community with Jesus as our heartbeat. We recognize that we are not where we want to be in our walk of faith and so we will grow in God’s Word personally and together with one another.

CONNECTING

We are a community for the community with Jesus as our heartbeat. We are one family. This means that we will connect with one another as a family of faith. This weekend we’ll be looking at sections of Proverbs to study what the Bible says about friendship.

GATHERING

We are a community for the community with Jesus as our heartbeat. We share one faith. The most important thing we do each week is gathering. We gather with each other and with our God for worship.

One - #4 - Many Parts

Many+Parts.jpg

Each person in this world is uniquely made by their Creator. Each one of us is unique, created perfectly by our God for works of service both according to how God had made and gifted us, and according to how we have been shaped and molded by life.  While we are one body, one family, and ministry sharing one faith. We who are one are also many. And what makes each one us different makes all of us better.

One - #3 - One Family

One+Family.jpg

We are a family and a community of believers that walk in faith and through life together.  As we go through life things fracture the family.  Sometimes it’s sin and hurt that pushes family members apart.  Other times it is just because of the busyness of life that we slowly drift apart.  On Welcome Home Sunday we want to celebrate the family that we have and recommit ourselves to walking together in faith and through life.

One - #2 - One Ministry

One+Ministry.jpg

Since the very beginning of our ministry we have operated both a church and a school.  These are two very important parts of our ministry. Yet, these are not two ministries, but one. And it's not just these two that are married into one ministry. It's the ministry that each one of us carries out day after day whether at home, in the community, at work, and even here at the church.  Whether we come or go, we are one body believers carrying out one ministry and mission together.  And this ministry and mission is simple: We are here to share and to show the forgiveness of God and the love of Jesus.

ONE - A NEW SERMON SERIES

public.jpeg

God has given Mount Lebanon a mission here and now. We are here to share and show the forgiveness of God and the love of Jesus. In this series we want to consider the things that matter most to us as we carry out this mission. These are the things that God says about what is important to him for his church. These are the things that we value. These are the beliefs that guide our actions and interactions with each other and our community. This is a series about those things.

Mission Questions - #3 - Reassuring Questions.

Mission Questions Header.PNG

We have some amazing work to do.  We are called by our God to join him in his mission of saving the world. We are called to preach, to teach, to tell, to spread the message about Jesus with a dying world and especially with the people in our own lives.

There is a ton of work to do.  And it's hard work.  Sometimes we even wonder if it's working. Sometimes we wonder if it even matters.

Our God makes some astounding promises to us that that let us rest even while we work.  The work is ours to do. The results are his to bring about. And his Word promises that he will.  Listen as Pastor Bublitz shows us the promises that God makes to us about his Word and about our work.

Mission Questions - #2 - Leading Questions.

Mission Questions Header.PNG

Questions are powerful.  They can lead us to be introspective and incisive.  They can lead us to see ourselves better and more clearly.  They an also lead to a better and clearer understanding of God as they lead us to meditate on who he is and what he’s done.  That’s the idea behind our series: Mission Questions.  We want to spend some time asking questions of ourselves and our own thinking about our personal and church mission work.  We also want to spend time going deeper into God’s mission and his heartfelt desire for the world.

Today, as we continue walking through Romans 10, Pastor Bourman asks the leading question: If the gospel is so powerful and it is what saves people, why don’t we share it more often or more confidently?  We have every reason to do it, so let’s roar!

Today, as we begin this series in Romans 10, Pastor Bourman challenges us to think about the thinking of our own hearts when it comes to the gospel.  He comforts us by leading us rest in the finished work of Jesus as we go out.

We are the Mount - #4 - High Stakes

Today, Pastor Nate Bourman helps us remember that the stakes are high in our lives of faith, eternity is on the line.  And God is faithful.  He has secured out eternity with the blood of his Son.  Our eternity is secure in his grip.  This is a sermon on 1 Corinthians 10:1-6 and 11-13.

We are the Mount - #3 - Keep Building the Body

You’re listening to a sermon from the Mount.  We’re the Mount and we’re committed to making God’s Word known so that people know God’s truth and are transformed by it.  Today, Missionary John Roebke from Malawi urges us to keep on being the body of Christ and building the body Christ.  We are the body of Christ, each one of us is a part of us.  We each are called by God and given different gifts to serve right where God wants us to serve.

We are the Mount - #1 - The Task in Front of Us
