The Mount Weekend Update - 6/25/2021

There is a song that goes like this: “He’s got the whole world in his hands; he’s got the whole world in his hands; he’s got the whole world in his hands; he’s got the whole world in his hands.” You might be humming the tune by now. You might even keep on singing the rest of the verses. Some of you learned this when you were a child in VBS or Sunday school or even in your grade school. Your parents or your teachers taught you this song because they wanted you to know and to remember a very simple and very powerful truth. The whole world - including you and me and all that we are and do - is in his hands.

Somewhere along the way we began to take this whole thing way too seriously. And I’m lumping myself in with you. I don’t laugh enough. Or smile enough. Or enjoy my work enough. Or enjoy my wife or my kids enough. Somewhere along the way we began to take this whole thing way too seriously because we forgot the simple truth we teach our kids to sing: “He’s got the whole world in his hands… He’s got you and me sister in his hands…”

This weekend, we want to return to our childish roots and see things from God’s perspective and from his point of view. We want to learn to live with a simple, childlike faith, that enjoys all of the things that God gives us in this life that we live under the sun. Let’s smile more and laugh louder. Let’s whistle while we work and enjoy some fun in the sun with our spouse and our kids. Let’s enjoy this life that God gives us because… “He’s got the whole world in his hands.” We’ll be looking at Ecclesiastes 9:1-12.
