Wednesday Word from the Mount

Happy Wednesday!

It is another day of grace from our Savior! He has done all things well today, just as he did the day before that. I want to put several things on your radar as we make our way through this week and into the future. That’s why we’re sending out this extra email. There are four things. I’ll elaborate on those below, but this is what they are.

1) The Milwaukee Health Department has suggested that they may be changing their plans and policies this week or next because of the rise in COVID cases. We will be monitoring their updates. God keep us all safe!

2) Advent Worship Survey. Thank you to everyone who has taken the survey already. If you haven’t yet, you have a few more days. The deadline is Monday. You can take the survey here (another link will be included below).

3) Welcome Home Sunday is Sunday, November 1. More details below.

4) God’s Government Bible Study begins on Wednesday, October 28. More information below.

May the Lord bless and keep all of you in his grace. I know that he will.

On Sunday, November 1, we will be holding our second annual “Welcome Home” Sunday. This is also Reformation Sunday! What a wonderful day on which to celebrate not only our Lutheran faith heritage but also to celebrate the family that we have in Christ. After worship, we’ll set up for a tailgate for the football game that afternoon. Please mark this Sunday and make plans to be there. (Please note: We will still have our Saturday evening worship.)

You can sign-up to bring something for the tailgate here.

NEW WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDY: God’s Government

It’s election season, but aggressive politics have bombarded us for a long time. We’re bombarded by political campaigns and by political rants everywhere that we turn. In this four-week Bible study, offered both online and in-person, explores various issues related to the secular government in our country.

Wednesday, October 28 - God’s Government: Origins and Power (6:30 – 7:30 pm.)

Wednesday, November 4 - God’s Government: Conspiracy Theories (6:30 – 7:30 pm.)

Wednesday, November 11 - God’s Government: Peace and Politics (6:30 – 7:30 pm.)

Wednesday, November 18 - God’s Government: Stressing These Things (6:30 – 7:30 pm.)

#1: Origins and Power (A study based on Romans 13:1-7)

This study begins a study series that explores various issues related to the secular government in our country. This study lays a foundation for the rest of the series by giving basic teaching on the similarities and differences between the Church and the State. It looks at both their origins and their power, celebrating both of these gifts to the world. It concludes with using the power Christ has granted to his Church on earth through the gospel.

#2: Conspiracy Theories (A study based on Isaiah 8:11-18)

Many of us have grown up with conspiracy theories fluttering around us for most of our lives. In recent years, the prominence of those theories and the muttering around them seems to have increased. There are conspiracy theories about a one-world government, 5g and Covid-19, Soros, Gates, and even Dr. Fauci. In the last few months, there seems to have been even more talk of conspiracy. What is the Christian to do with conspiracy? This sermon explores that question, especially in light of Christ’s eternal gospel.

#3: Peace and Politics (A study based on Zechariah 1:18-21)

We are called to be peacemakers, not to be hate mongers. Because that’s true, we need to place politics into the right place in our hearts so that we can truly live in peace. In that effort, this study addresses politics directly. It looks at three aspects of politics: its power, the power that goes beyond it, and its point. Its goal is to bring Christ’s peace to politics in such a way that it enables us to be the peacemakers Christ has called us to be.

#4: Stressing these Things (A study based on Titus 3:1-8)

This study finishes off our series on God’s government. It seeks to remind us of the truths we’ve covered while also answering the question of why all these reminders do matter for our lives now, putting them in the context of our baptism and our salvation given through it.
